Help us end PPCM

A message from the PPCM Research Initiative

We are addressing Peripartum Cardiomyopathy, a disease that is responsible for nearly 20% of pregnancy-related maternal mortality, particularly in underserved or minority populations, and is the cause of 1 in 20 heart transplants in women in the U.S. It is easy to diagnose and treat but it is diagnosed too late in many women because there are no screening recommendations or guidelines for referral. PPCM is more common than Downs Syndrome in the U.S. South, yet no one has ever heard of it!
We are working together to find a solution to this problem that devastates families and ends young women’s lives prematurely from a disease that we ALREADY KNOW how to treat.

National PPCM Events – Upcoming – (in progress)

PPCM Physicians (in progress)

This will be a place to recommend or find physicians that are knowledgeable and adept at treating women diagnosed with PPCM or suspected to have PPCM. All recommendations are based on recommendations from the PPCM Community. The PPCM Research Initiative does not participate in selecting or promoting physicians and has no financial or other interests or involvement with the physicians listed. We are merely providing the platform for discussion.

“It is the curse of humanity that it learns to tolerate even the most horrible situations by habituation…Medical education does not exist to provide students with a way of making a living, but to ensure the health of the community…The physicians are the natural attorneys of the poor, and the social problems should largely be solved by them.”
